General Gynaecology

Clinical Service » General Gynaecology

The General Gynaecology Division provides secondary and tertiary gynaecological service. We receive referrals from all over the Special Administrative Region. We provide a comprehensive range of treatment for various conditions so that more choices can be offered. When surgical treatment is indicated, the least traumatic approach will be chosen. For example, we consider removing the uterus vaginally which is more preferable to even laparoscopic surgery. To minimise the disruption to patientsˇ¦ daily life, we provide day surgery to suitable patients. Other patients will usually be admitted in the morning of the operating day. Patients with early pregnancy complications can be seen in our Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic to avoid hospital admission. General Gynaecology Clinics are run three times a week. The service is supported by subspecialists like gynaecological oncologists, reproductive medicine subspecialists in the department. Other specialists in Queen Mary Hospital and in the University of Hong Kong are also involved as appropriate. The Division is involved in the teaching and training of medical students and house officers. We are playing a key role in the training of postgraduates towards attainment of specialist status. There are also ongoing clinical research activities in the Division.
