Maternal Fetal Medicine

Introduction
High Risk Obstetrics Team provides subspecialty level obstetric care for mothers with various medical and surgical disorders, as well as mothers with significant obstetric risk factors. Examples include:

Diabetes mellitus
- Pre-existing IDDM
- Poorly controlled GDM

Hypertension
- Chronic hypertension with / without renal problem
- Severe gestational hypertension

Cardiac disorder
- Congenital and acquired maternal heart diseases

Endocrine problems
- Thyrotoxicosis
- Hypothyroidism

Neurological disorder
- Myasthenia gravis

Haematological disorder
- Severe thrombocytopenia

Autoimmune disorders
- Systemic lupus erythematosis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Antiphospholipid syndrome

Post-organ transplantation
- Post-liver transplant
- Post-renal transplant

Recurrent miscarriage

History of unexplained stillbirth
Recurrent preterm labour
Recurrent fetal growth restriction
High order multifetal pregnancies

We provide joint management with physicians, surgeons, anaesthesiologists, neonatologists in order to offer a multi-disciplinary approach of maternity care.

In-patient service
Our in-patient service is provided at Queen Mary Hospital

Out-patient service
The following out-patient services are provided by High Risk Obstetrics Team:

  • High Risk Obstetrics Clinic
  • Combined Medical Clinic
  • Combined Endocrine Clinic
  • Pre-pregnancy Counseling Clinic
  • Multiple Pregnancy Clinic

Fetal Assessment Service Team (F.A.S.T.)
F.A.S.T. provides an efficient and clinically orientated fetal assessment service for in-patients under both High Risk Obstetrics Team and General Obstetrics Teams. It also provides an alternative environment for close and regular fetal monitoring on an out-patient basis. The referring doctor in-charge is welcome to join the scan so that the subsequent management can be planned accordingly.
